The City Rights-Of-Way (utility easements) are being destroyed by AT&T and other service providers by ignoring and purposely not funding maintenance for abandoned and un-maintained copper cable terminal enclosures in public utility easements, public rights-of-way, private back yards, and other key places in the city. What can be done about the unsightly, disgraceful and in some cases unsafe conditions the once-envied telecommunications giant and other cable, phone and internet providers who have left unfinished or abandoned outside plant facilities to deteriorate and ignore in many cities across America?

Other utility companies, like Spectrum and other fiber optic companies in our municipal easements are starting to follow suite using these standards that AT&T has set and are exhibiting similar characteristics, especially on utility poles and overhead cable runs over and next to busy streets and other areas. We need to lobby our city, county and state officials to stop this activity now and begin utilizing our utility easement laws to control this reckless behavior. Laws may need reviewed and penalties stiffened but we need to see “the real deal” through pictures you might have taken or will take for sharing.

Feel free to share your thoughts and pictures of these eyesores that are popping up all over our City. Send an email and any pictures to UtilityEyesores@tomkneeland.com
