The City Rights-Of-Way (utility easements) are being destroyed by AT&T with abandoned and un-maintained copper cable terminal enclosures in public utility easements, public rights-of-way, private back yards, and other key places in the city. What can be done about the unsightly, disgraceful and in some cases unsafe conditions the once-envied telecommunications giant has left abandoned to deteriorate and ignore in many cities across America?
Other utility companies, like Spectrum and other fiber optic companies in our municipal easements are now starting to follow suite and are exhibiting similar characteristics, especially on utility poles and overhead cable runs over and next to busy streets and other areas like AT&T. We need to stop this activity now and begin utilizing our utility easement laws to control this reckless behavior. Laws may need reviewed and penalties stiffened but we need to see “the real deal” through pictures you might have taken or will take for sharing.
Feel free to share your thoughts and pictures of these eyesores that are popping up all over our City. Send an email and any pictures to UtilityEyesores@tomkneeland.com
