Lessons For Life

As a community service I will offer small classes for anyone interested in general home maintenance. Other areas like simple auto maintenance, wood working, construction principles, and yard and garden projects will be added in the future.

Watch this website for schedule announcements in 2022.

Are you a Boomer, GenXer, Millennial, or GenZer with an apartment or your own home? Feel like you need to know more about and better understand how to handle general home maintenance issues? Google and YouTube are great resources for Do-It-Yourselfers but nothing can replace spending time with someone that has life-long experiences and is willing to share some of those “Gotcha’s” associated with general maintenance of a home.

Currently there is a knowledge gap that exists when it comes to home, auto, and yard and garden maintenance. To fill that gap the Lessons For Life series will provide a simple sharing environment that will give attendees an opportunity to learn from those that have spent a lifetime learning and doing general home, auto and yard/garden maintenance through the Life Of Hard Knocks and provide survival skills to anyone interested.

Overview

A Guide to General Home Maintenance Survival

Purpose

To transfer basic home maintenance skills collected over a number of decades with the young and not-so-young that have a real desire to better understand some of the relatively simple but very important tasks necessary for good home maintenance. To confidently make decisions to personally undertake a maintenance task or to identify qualified individuals or companies who are able to do the work properly.

Why This Is Important

Home maintenance is important to guard and protect your largest investment. There have been fewer opportunities afforded to adults, young adults, and youth to learn basic maintenance skills that have been taken for granted for many decades. The gaps in these skills today are partly due to the shift from working with our hands to a higher focus and priority on college education with the notion that you pick up the phone and call an expert for home maintenance issues. Unfortunately those experts you call are either booked solid, cost more than anticipated or are non-existent.

Areas We Plan To Cover

I will have four general areas of focus for individual classes:

  • Home maintenance (Initial classes)
  • Construction and Carpentry principles (future)
  • Car maintenance (future)
  • Yard and Garden (future)

Basic home maintenance courses will be the initial focus with carpentry, auto, and yard and garden maintenance offered at a later date. These courses will be small groups with up to 6-8 people per course for more personlaized interaction. These courses will be held in a very informal setting with hands-on examples of the different materials used and will include components of the areas being discussed. No degrees required, just a little common sense and a desire to learn.

General Interest Form

I would like to gather the general interest in an informal home maintenance 101 course. You are under no oblifgation by filling out the form. Once we have feedback we will post how to sign up. Thank You!!
